Colonoscopy
Colonoscopy is a procedure, which allow a doctor to look at the lining of the large bowel by using a long flexible tube just like your index finger with a bright light at the end. The tip is passed carefully through the anus and the doctor looks inside the colon for inflammation, bleeding, polyps, or tumors. Biopsy for small piece of tissues during the procedure may be performed. In EverHealth Clinic, we use endoscopies with medical center standard as well as wash machine to prevent the possibility of trans-infection and ensure the quality of procedure reliable.

How to prepare the procedure ?
Before the test, special instructions about low residual diet, medications for cleaning the colon with laxatives and/or enema before the procedure will be given.
Please follow the colon cleaning instruction for clear visualization of the colon.
Please tell the doctor your drug history, past physical history especially glaucoma, drug allergy history, or any infectious disease.

What happens when the procedure is performed ?
The doctor will give “bowel relaxant” through intramuscular injection to help your bowel relax.
With the patient lying down, the doctor first insert a gloved finger to check anus condition.
Because the space limit, colonoscopy under general anesthesia was not available in my clinic. We will try our every effort of careful manipulation and experience skill to make you discomfort during procedure as little as possible.
Then, a thin flexible colonoscope is inserted and guided under video through the colon.
The colonoscopy allows doctor to take a biopsy or remove a polyp during the procedure.
During the procedure, air will be passed through the scope to distend the bowel. It is normal to have wind-like pain, cramps, and a feeling of wanting to go to the toilet. But this will pass off. Do not feel embarrassed. The procedure will last approximately 10 to 20 minutes.

Must I do anything special after the procedure ?
After the procedure, passing gas helps relieve cramps. Inform your doctors if the discomfort persisted, or you experience severe abdomen pain, or uneven bloody stool.
You must be accompanied by a relative/friend on discharge to take care your discomfort.
